Rush Guitar Anthology (Guitar Anthology Series)
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (01 November, 1999)
Authors: Colgan Bryan, Aaron Stang, and Rush
Average review score:

Rushed attempt at transcription
The transcriptions in this book may provide one with the ability to play something that sounds something like the recordings, but are not completely accurate. Tones are missing. Fingerings are incorrect. One may argue that the musicial notation is somewhat accurate, but the tablature seems to indicate that it was produced only by translating the notes, not by listening to the recordings (e.g., by listening to the recording one could determine whether a note was played higher on a low string or lower on a higher string).
Pass on this book if you wish to play a Rush song exactly as recorded. Instead, look to back issues of guitar magazines (especially Guitar for the Practicing Musician, no longer in print).

Sh-Ko and His Eight Wicked Brothers
Published in School & Library Binding by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (October, 1991)
Authors: Ahsley Bryan, Fumio Yoshimura, Ashley Bryan, and Furnio Yoshimura
Average review score:

Lacking in the Artistic Quality
While I found the story moderately entertaining, i found the illustrations absolutely tiresome and lacking of vibrance. The Japanese technique/medium is beautiful, however what excitement can be found from a picture book that uses faded black ink on a light baige background? The number one rule of thumb in evaluating picture books is that the illustrations add to the excitement/ emotions of the story. The pictures actually dulled the story and made it less exciting. There is such a thing as color . . . it's all the rage with young children.

Unreal Tournament 2003: Prima's Official Strategy Guide
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (01 October, 2002)
Authors: Bryan Stratton, Temp Authors Prima, and Joe Grant Bell
Average review score:

Oh, so this is the UT2003 manual
I purchased this "book" (actually, it is like a small magazine) because the booklet included with UT 2003 was woefully inadequate and nearly impossible to read. Frankly, I think game distributors are skimping on the manuals to try and make us buy more game-related goods. I don't agree with the practise. So far as I'm concerned, with I buy an expensive game, it should ship with it's own manual.

This game guide has over-head maps of all the levels, in case you are interested, but actually they are printed quite small and thus are not of much use. You have to squint to try to see the details. The maps need to be much bigger.

Basically, this guide is like a manual, standard stuff that doesn't really have much that will help you play the game better. Best to search out online guides for that.

Web Publishing With Xml in Six Easy Steps
Published in Paperback by Academic Press (December, 1998)
Author: Bryan Pfaffenberger
Average review score:

Only basic description of XML
The book is very weak in content and has absolutely no practical examples. I'm not an expert in XML, so I won't give a technical estimate, but with new technology like XML one should not only show his favorable opinion, but provide examples to prove it's value. Title is also very misleading - in fact you've got a combination of 'appreciating the need of xml' and XML short description.

Aerosmith: What It Takes
Published in Paperback by Boxtree Ltd (December, 1997)
Authors: Dave Bowler and Bryan Dray
Average review score:

WHAT THEVE GOT TO BE CRAZY READ WALK THIS WAY
they blamed everything on steven and its not right i think you should have took more time and got new info too. it sucked sorry to say that but i also have walk this way and it has hard core details real good

Unusually biased...
The summary says it all. I don't know what the authors intended to achieve, but they managed to end up slagging off Steven Tyler and saying that everything that went wrong with Aerosmith was his fault. WRONG ! Read "Walk This Way: The Official Autobiography of Aeromsith" if you want the truth- keep this one for when you want to mindlessly hate out on Steven Tyler. I mean let's face it, Joe Perry didn't help things... plus it was the whole thing that was messed up: the band, the management, the producers, the wives... need I go on ?

2 bad! =(
The book waz pretty boring 4 an Aerosmith fan! The book seems 2 focus on the negative! Well if u want a great read on Aerosmith then get WALK THIS WAY - an autobiography written by the legends themselves! What It Takes doesn't seem 2 b written by true Aerosmith fans. If u r a true Aerosmith fan then I recomend Walk This Way b'cause it has a unique format and is well written! luv- an Aerosmith fan

The HTML/CSS Developer's Resource Guide
Published in CD-ROM by Charles River Media (June, 1999)
Author: Bryan Pfaffenberger
Average review score:

Not worth it
I consider myself an intermidate web designer who likes to hand code pages.I took a chance purchasing this cd-rom and paid the price. The information was shallow and uninformative. It provided no insight into HTML elements, only simple examples. Experienced users would find it useless. Novices will find it confusing. Save you money and time, get a real reference.

A Flawed Resource
Well, what can I say? I was hoping for a lot more based on the price of this CD. The CD contains 3.82 MB of info, that's it. DHTML examples? only 3. CSS examples? Only the product itself. The format is a welcome screen that takes you to 5 different options, which are nothing more than a table of contents. It lists attributes and tags in HTML 4 and CSS level2, with a VERY LIMITED example scope for each attribute.

On the plus side: relatively elegant layout. It does tell you what CSS works with what versions of browsers. On the negative side: it doesn't do the same for HTML. Bottom line? A $3.95 2-page reference chart can get you the exact same information cheaper and quicker. Stick to paper-based products.

The Marriage and Family Experience
Published in Hardcover by West Wadsworth (January, 1992)
Authors: Bryan Strong and Christine Devault
Average review score:

Don't bother reading this book
I read this book for a Sociology class and was not impressed. The book contained many factual errors. More importantly, the book is offensive to any moral person. The author took every opportunity to beat up on religious people and their beliefs.

I don't think that it's unreasonable to assume that the author is a devout socialist. Furthurmore, the author did a good job of accusing white Christian males of causing all of the world's problems. I would highly recommend that you don't read this book.

Limited textbook on marrige and the family
This is the standard textbook for studying marriage and the family, unfortunately. It is quite a good introduction with interdiscplinary perspectives from thee authors, but their underlying definition of "family" is inherently flawed. The traditinal "family" definition is not covered, nor are alternatives to contraception and abortion like chastisty and nurturing women who want to keep their baby.

Someone needs to write a similiar textbook without this underlying bias. I hope there is a publisher out there that will agree.

HIPAA Compliance Solutions
Published in Paperback by Microsoft Press (15 December, 2001)
Authors: Steve Bass, Lisa Miller, and Bryan Nylin
Average review score:

Not worth the paper it's printed on
This book contains nothing valuable. The case studies in it are superficial and tells the readers nothing about what's actually going on behind the scene. For example, in the first case, there's an explanation about mapping between X12 837 to some other formats. The example shows a screenshot of a nice GUI that allows the user to map elements of X12 to some other format presumably by using XML mapping. But where does the screen gets its information from? This example doesn't tell us anything about how to come up with a good XML representation of the X12 837 spec. Which is the first thing that any "solutions" would have to start from. I guess it's because of the closed-source nature of everything that Microsoft is doing, that they are afraid of showing the actual processes that they went through. Furthermore, they are actually proud of a solution that employs 6 different servers? the licensing costs alone are enough to put most clearinghouses out of business. If you're looking for an insight on how to actually help someone with HIPAA compiance, don't count on this book to be anything but a waste of money and time.

Where is the "Solutions"?
How can someone write book about a solution to a national problem where all they are doing is promoting the WPC product lines and some shallow Microsoft explanation of a server that can be found for FREE from the Microsoft Website. I could not find this book in the store to check it out before buying so I had to buy it. Don't repeat my mistake. Look for a more objective view and solution elsewhere.
Is this ethical to charge money for this book??

Nothing More Than a Microsoft Sales Pitch
If you are looking for practical assistance with HIPAA compliance, look elsewhere. This is nothing but a very long adervertisement for Microsoft products.

Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self
Published in Audio Cassette by Hay House, Inc. (February, 1996)
Authors: Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan
Average review score:

Truly the worst program I've listened to.
I agree with the last review. They simply taped a workshop - and we miss what's said by the participants because they're not miked. What's worse, though, is that it simply ends in the middle of one of the list-making exercises -- no conclusions are drawn. There is nothing to explain why on earth we've made all these lists. This is horrible.

Don't waste your money!
I have to admit that I haven't read any of the Artist's Way books. Maybe I am missing something here but the back of the tape promised that..."The authors show you how to link creativity to learnable skills; recognize the power that connects creativity with the universe;...recover confindence and courage in order to overcome hurdles". This is indeed a tall order, and I didn't really expect it all, but this tape delivers nothing! It is a poorly done recording of a seminar given by Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan. There is no real information given on what their idea's are or how to use their methods. There is just a lot inane banter and list making. An example, which was done several times over the course of the tape, is that they ask for you to write what an artist is over and over (we are talking ten times in a row!). This is all there is to the tape. I didn't find it helpful or even interesting.
